I have been a potter since I was 19 years old, when my mother encouraged me to take up a night class. I attended evening classes in Gt Missenden, Buckinghamshire for 3 years, until I got married and we moved around the country with my husband’s work. As soon as we were settled in a new place, I would look for a class, to enable me to continue learning and developing my skills.

After a few years, I bought a wheel and then a kiln shortly after that so I could be completely self sufficient. We settled into our current home in Buckinghamshire 20 years ago

I work in a large shed at the bottom of my garden that my husband built, which has electricity running to it.

I work part time as an administrator 5 mornings a week, and then I pot or teach pottery in the afternoons, which is my passion.

I use cream stoneware clay that is suitable for the oven, microwave and dishwasher

The mugs, vases and jugs (pots) are all hand thrown on the potter’s wheel. The handles are made using a handle tool and attached securely to the pots. A hexagon tool is used to press an indent into each pot and the bee sprigs are attached using a mold. They are then all hand painted in a honey, black and white underglaze.

The pots are then fired to a low temperature for the glaze to be applied, allowing the water to evaporate and the powder to stick to the pot. I use a transparent glaze to allow the bee and hexagon colours to appear brightly. Giving the final pot a cream colour.

The pots are then fired again in the kiln to a high temperature, so that they are very durable and food/liquid safe

The size of each item: The size may differ very slightly as each item is handmade.
